Maths

Our Maths lessons are designed to guide students through the key mathematical concepts of the British National Curriculum at KS1, KS2 and KS3 levels. This course builds a strong foundation in numeracy, problem-solving, and logical thinking, using White Rose scheme of work to ensure links with school practices.

Number sense and place value
Students will master the understanding of numbers, counting, and place value, which forms the foundation for all future mathematical learning.
Lessons will include a focus on understanding and working with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions, ensuring children have a solid grasp of numerical relationships.
Operations
We teach a wide variety of strategies to approach basic operations, from mental arithmetic to written methods.
Children will learn how to apply addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to real-world problems, using both practical activities and word problems to deepen understanding.
Fractions, decimals and percentages
Students will develop a strong understanding of how fractions, decimals, and percentages relate to one another and will be able to confidently convert between them.
Real-life applications, such as understanding money, measurements, and proportions, will be incorporated to make learning engaging and meaningful.
Geometry and measurement
Lessons will cover the properties of shapes, including 2D and 3D figures, angles, symmetry, and transformations, with hands-on activities to help visualise these concepts.
Measurement, including length, mass, capacity, and time, will be taught in practical and relatable ways to ensure children can apply these skills outside of the classroom.
Problem solving and reasoning
Problem-solving is central to our approach, with children being encouraged to explore different methods to solve mathematical problems, developing flexibility in their thinking.
Students will also focus on explaining their reasoning, improving their ability to articulate how and why they have solved a problem in a particular way, which is a critical skill for maths assessments.
Our maths lessons ensure students not only build mathematical fluency but also enjoy the learning process through interactive activities and real-world applications. By following the British National Curriculum, we ensure that each child is equipped with the essential skills to thrive in KS1, KS2 and KS3 maths.
